Colonial/Traditional Newels offered by LAJ Wood Products include the 4010, 4013, 4015, 4040, and 4045.
The Colonial/Traditional Newel is a great addition to a Colonial stairway (great for matching Colonial/Traditional style homes). The thinnest part of the Colonial post is 1-13/16” and the thickest part is 3” – an overall variation of 1-3/16”. These posts have a square base that ranges from 16” to 28” depending on the overall length of the post. Posts have four lengths: 43”, 48”, 54”, or 59”. Colonial/Traditional Newels come in four forms: Pin Top, Ball Top, Mushroom Top, and Taper Top.
The 4015 Colonial Post (Ball Top) has four versions: 4015BT-10 (10” face, 23” turning, and 22” base), 4015BT-13 (13” face, 23” turning, and 19” base), 4015BTS-10 (10” face, 17” turning, and 28” base), and 4015BTS-13 (13” face, 17” turning, and 25” base). The 4015 Ball Top is also produced in a Mushroom Top style. The 4010 (both Ball Top and Pin Top) are produced in four lengths: 43”, 48”, 54”, and 59”. The 4015 Pin Top is produced in two lengths: 48” and 56”.
The turning of the Colonial/Traditional Newel starts with a 1-13/16” thick notch and tapers slowly outward for 9.5 inches. It then tapers inwards for half an inch and rests on the last portion of the turning, which is 4.5 inches long.
The set of balusters that match well with Colonial Newels are the 5015, 5025, 5040, 5067, and 5141.

Balusters
Choosing a baluster profile is another exciting part of the installation process. Your stair system’s entire effect is largely determined by which baluster you choose. There are many different profiles available for you to pick from, which will enable you to tie the whole “picture” together regarding a major focal point in your home. All of our baluster profiles are available in Primed, Red Oak, White Oak, Poplar, Soft or Hard Maple, American Cherry, Brazilian Cherry, Beech, Walnut, and Mahogany.
